Summary

Currently seeking an experienced Engineer to work for Telespazio VEGA in support of ESA/ESTEC with development of software tools for engineering aspects of navigation systems.

Objective

The primary purpose of the role will be to support the Radio Navigation Systems & Techniques Section on software development for various navigation system design activities.

Responsibilities / Duties

The key tasks and responsibilities, will include, but are not limited to:

Engineering tools exploitation, development and evolution

Support ESA in engineering activities, associated with the development and updates of engineering tools including but not limited to the following areas:

  • RF system performance analysis and Service volume simulation;
  • Digital signal processing and user algorithms, including simulation of environment impairments, use of RF Constellation Simulator (RFCS) and Software-Defined-Radios (SDRs), etc.;
  • Navigation and sensor fusion algorithms involving GNSS, Precise Point Positioning (PPP), Real Time Kinematic (RTK), etc.;
  • Concepts and techniques for High Accuracy GNSS, PPP and PPP-RTK positioning;
  • Assessment of associated integrity concepts (system performances, algorithms and software for network processors and computation of the corrections, user algorithms, etc.);
  • Analysis relating to the use of space receivers (visibility analysis, system performances, testing of space receiver in the laboratory) and update of associated tools;
  • Security algorithm and techniques design and testing;
  • Telecom and data dissemination techniques and protocols;
  • Physical, data, network layer techniques and simulations;
  • Link budget analysis and simulations.

Essential Skills

  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Telecommunications, Space Systems Engineering,  or related specialisation.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the development of Software tools related to the specific tasks of the position.
  • The candidate should be familiar with modern software engineering practices and tools.
  • GNSS experience.
  • Experience in software development of tools for Space Systems is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge in (Model-Based) Software production, test processes and associated tools (e.g. Capella, Magic Draw, Enterprise Architect, On-Board Software Reference Architecture, TASTE) is an asset.
  • Knowledge in software standards (space ECSS, aircrafts, train, automotive) is interesting.
  • Experience in GNSS and navigation systems is also interesting.

Qualities

  • Proficient in the English language (spoken and written)
  • Very good organisation and communication skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and autonomously
